We can read many books, many articles, many posts, and many funny memes that all point to the undefinable world of motherhood; however, nothing can quite describe the mother who is still trying to find herself.
Mother: pronounced [muhth-er] - a noun
Hood: pronounced [hoo d] - a state of, condition, character, nature, etc., or a body of persons of a particular character or class, formerly used in the formation of nouns: motherhood.
Motherhood summed up: we enter into a class of "person, place or thinghood" that somehow grants us the natural ability to raise little versions of yourself.
So, serious question about Motherhood: which is it? Person, place, or thing? Because I can most definitely say that I am a person, trying to find my place, with many things on my mind...oh, and on my to-do lists.
I, a mother myself, have lain awake at night pondering a plethora of things. When I say pondering, what I really mean is...
1. Mentally beat my self up for not knowing it all
2. What am I truly accomplishing?
3. Does my child appreciate me?
4. I hope my child forgives me for being so angry earlier.
5. Am I a good mother?
6. Am I a good wife?
7. Did I add toilet paper to the list?
8. Was the water bill due last week or this week?
9. What's my purpose
10. I didn't drink enough water today.
11. Man, a snack really sounds good right now...
If you related to any of the above please give yourself a pat on the back and tell yourself that you are most definitely NOT alone. Also, add that you're doing a fantastic job!
A small added fact is, there is no "I" in Mother.
That does not mean we should ever leave our beautifully creative and authentic selves behind.
We are designed, wonderfully interwoven, with many purposeful pieces within. Of all these pieces, motherhood is one, but there are still many readily there to take on the world.
Let them be found!
If you are a mom who is struggling with this, take a quick read through these three uplifting reminders:
1. A person:
You are human. You are a person. You are a mom. Yes, this means that you will have emotions, questions, worries, joys, fears, and curiosities. Embrace it all. If you're currently questioning that next step for your purpose, or maybe you're on track to finding it, remember you are human, but a human that is strong, willing, steadfast, and ever-learning. This is all apart of the pieces that help you create that big picture.
2. A place:
You'll find your place. keep your eyes on the destination. Just imagine, it's right in front of you; just keep taking steps forward. Maybe you're wanting to start an Etsy account, maybe you're thinking about joining that 'Mommy outing group,' maybe you want to go back to work, maybe you want to be at home with your babies, or maybe you want to start a blog *cough cough.* GO FOR IT! But always remember one of the greatest destinations you've reached so far, being a mommy.
3. A thing:
No, we're not "things," but we definitely have a lot of things going on in our life. Sometimes we let these things get in the way of our other almost obtainable purposes, but don't let it! I repeat, do not let it! To do lists, laundry, dishes, errands, disappointments, and even setbacks are inevitable - DON'T let these "things" hold you back. Turn your thing into anything you're wanting to accomplish. Remember, the magic is right in front of you, take a step. Make those dreams reality.
4. Breathe
I went ahead and added a fourth one just because sometimes we need to take a moment to pause, and simply breathe. Take a breath, mamma, you’re doing wonderfully.
"Momma, you might be trying to find yourself, but trust me, you've been found."
